Getting to the Convention

  1. Past District Governor Pam Gray (my wife) and I are planning on riding from Paradise California, down through Flagstaff Arizona (to see kids) and then East to Atlanta.

    So, my current itinerary….

Leave Paradise California on May 25. Arrive in RENO Nv.
Leave Reno May 26. Arrive in ELY, Nv
Leave Ely May 27, arrive in Page/Lake Powel, AZ….yes, busy on Memorial Day weekend
Leave Page May 28, arrive Flagstaff, AZ for 2 nights….seeing family
Leave Flagstaff May 30, arrive in Santa Fe, New Mexico for 2 nights
Leave Santa Fe June 1, arrive in Amarillo, TX
Leave Amarillo June 2, arrive in Henryetta, OK
Leave Henryetta June 3, arrive Greenville, Mississippi
Leave Greenville June 4, arrive in Atlanta, GA

We have a couple of days lee way built in on purpose. This is a long ride, and stuff happens, and I may get distracted and stop to see something good!

We are still planning our ride home, but will leave Atlanta June 15 and head to Nashville, Memphis, Kansas City, St. Louis, and Estes Park CO, through Utah, and back to Ely and Reno. All in pencil still.

I am VERY interested in suggestions! I don’t want to miss a good road side stop. Or the BEST ribs. Or the biggest Rotary park/project/statue or whatever. My wife is a PDG, and I joined Rotary in 1992. We are very involved with Rotary.

I only have reservations through Santa Fe, all else is up for grabs. This is our vacation this year too! Please let me know of exciting or interesting stops. And if you can join us for dinner or a drink after a grueling day on the Harley Road King (Lazy Boy with an engine). Or if you want to ride with us all the way, or for a day or two?? We will be on the bike, 2 up, for 30 days straight, a first for us!

I appreciate your input, and hope to meet some new friends!

Hey y’all.  Welcome to the “South”!!  Home to the Tail of the Dragon, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Biltmore Estate, Grandfather Mountain, and the Bristol Motor Speedway.

Our Southeastern Region Director Carlton Pernell has laid out a wonderful 8 day leisurely yet most enjoyable 1200(+) mile excursion coupled with great fellowship starting & ending in Atlanta, Georgia.

Day 1 starts from Atlanta, Thursday morning, June 15, 2017 traveling through Helen, Georgia to Cherokee, North Carolina.   We will spend 3 nights in Cherokee, daily riding and enjoying various rides & activities in and around that area including the Tail of the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, Maggie Valley, Wheels through Time Museum, Great Smokey Mountain National Park, and the Cherokee Casinos.

We will ride the Blue Ridge Parkway and on our 4th night will be in Ashville, North Carolina where we will enjoy visiting (and perhaps even stay on) the Biltmore Estates.

We will then continue up the Blue Ridge Parkway and on our 5th and 6th nights will be in Little Switzerland, North Carolina as we enjoy rides and activities near there including US 421 (a.k.a. the Snake), Grandfather Mountain and the opportunity to ride your motorcycle on the Bristol Motor Speedway, in Bristol, Tennessee.

Our 7th night will be near Lake Lure, North Carolina where we will experience Chimney Rock.   And on the 8th day we travel back to Atlanta, Georgia completing a wonderful week of riding and fellowship.

Not enough?  Separating from the rest of the group at the end of the Little Switzerland activities, we have an optional 3 day side trip to the “Outer Banks”: site of the first manned flight at Kitty Hawk, iconic light houses, ferry ride to Beaufort Nags Head, attend the famous outdoor drama “The Lost Colony” and then the ride back to Atlanta.

If you have never experienced riding in these areas, boy are you in for a great treat.  For those of us that already have been to at least some of these areas, I’m sure you agree they are a timeless pleasure that can be enjoyed time and time again.

Keep your eye on our www.ifmr-na.com web page for the pending registration and hotel information.

IFMR-NA Rotary Polio Moto, Laredo, TX, March 25-26, 2017

I am a Rotarian, Lt. Gov. for Youth Services District 5930. I am past president of my club, The Laredo Rotary Club. I am also Assistant Scout Master for Troop 201, Crew Advisor for Crew 201, and Aztec District Training Chair. To pay the bills, I am an attorney, Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate, by Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

I have been motorcycling for around 5 years. My longest ride so far has been around 150 miles. I have wanted to do an “epic” ride, but I wanted it mean more than just taking to the road and feeling the wind while I ride. I wanted it to mean something and make a difference. So I put together my love of Rotary fellowship, a passion to make a global impact and my desire to make this epic
motorcycle trip. So ending Polio is what I decided to take on through RI’s End Polio Now Campaign and I hope you will join me to raise funds for this great cause.

Rotary Polio Moto Ride’s goal is to raise $5,000, which will be matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

We have a block of rooms at the Rotary District 5930 Rate at Comfort Suites next to Corpus Christi Harley-Davidson 538 S. Padre Island Drive.

Please Make Checks Payable to RI Foundation - Polio Plus
Mail to: Rotary Polio Moto Ride, C/O Joseph Michael Dickerson, 2 Lindenwood, Laredo, Texas 78045

The Ride……We will stop at many Rotary cities within District 5930. Rotarians and non-Rotarians can get involved by riding, donating, or hosting an event.

This motorcycle ride and fundraiser is part of something bigger than our South Texas District. This is a part of a global initiative to eliminate this crippling disease from the planet.

Sept 4-7, 2015, Rotary Ride over Labor Day Weekend, Northern, CA

So, here is the idea....
Some people come to Paradise on Friday Sept 4. Have a dinner at Brian and Pam's house. The Ponderosa Gardens Motel is nice and Rotarian owned here in Paradise.
Leave Paradise Saturday morning about 8:30 am. Rendezvous in Red Bluff at the Chevron station off of I 5 and Antelope, big nice place to meet. Leave Red Bluff at 10 AM. Ride west on Highway 36, North on Highway 3 through Hayfork, Weaverville, and beyond to Mt Shasta.
Staying at the Best Western in Mt Shasta. having a BBQ party at Mary Suvia's house (Assistant Governor of that area). She lives close to the hotel.
Leaving for a ride in the area Sunday Sept 6. Ending at the Rotary Blackberry Festival in Mt Shasta. They have an annual event which is 4 live bands, blackberry pie, and a very nice park to spend time in. The rumored Fountain Of Youth bubbles up from an underground spring there, starting the Sacramento river (I think that is the legend).
Some of us will spend another night at the Best Western Sunday night, and ride home via Highway 89 down to Cottonwood....back to the I 5 area and then home - if you are coming from South of there of course!
Some riders will just ride with us Saturday morning, turn East at Weaverville to come to Redding and then home. That is GREAT! Just join us!! Some will ride home Saturday after we get to Mt. Shasta - that too is GREAT! Some will ride home Sunday morning, afternoon, or evening - that is GREAT! And some will stay until Monday and ride home. That is GREAT also!!
Please join us!! should be a LOT OF FUN!!

IFMR 2014 Fall Foliage Ride & Get-Together,
America's Best Value Inn, Lake George, NY,
September 26-29, 2014

If you haven't already made arrangements to attend the IFMR Fall Get-Together & Rides at beautiful Lake George, NY, it's time to do so.  It's just a few weeks til we'll be getting together for another great IFMR weekend in one of the most scenic areas in the eastern US -- Lake George and the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York.  In case you've misplaced the earlier announcement with details, I've attached another copy for you.

Don't delay!  Pick up the phone today and make your room reservations while space is still available.  Then email Myron Fox and let him know you're planning to come so he can make appropriate arrangements for meals, etc.

Ladies & Gentlemen

Make your plans now for a great 4 day weekend in the Adirondack Mountains of NY.  We stay at the Americas Best Value Inn in Lake George, within walking distance of 3 great restaurants, and within walking distance of the middle of town.  There's lots of little shops to visit.  Plan on arriving Thursday afternoon to evening to see what the town has to offer, and maybe take a ride to the top of Prospect Mountain.

Our reservations with the Inn include use of a "Gathering Room" at no extra cost, where we are free to bring prepared foods, beverages of choice, or ordered foods.  We can't do any cooking or use their dishes.  This is the first floor of a townhouse that will be good for evening social times, and morning Continental Breakfasts of the items we bring in.  Available Thursday evening thru Sunday departure.

We have a Friday ride planned that takes us north along Lake George to Ticonderoga, and then SE arriving at The Gourmet Deli & Cafe in Manchester Vt for lunch before 1pm.  It has both outdoor and indoor seating (depending on temperatures), and is right next door to a jewelry store, and an art store (for those who might like to browse or buy). http://manchestergourmetdeli.com/

On our way back to Lake George, we cross two Covered Bridges, and stop at the Jessi Georgi Museum.  http://www.thegeorgi.com/museum.html  in the town of Salem (no witches here).  We stop about 80 miles into the 180 mile day for gas.  There is a lot of time planned for stops, and we should be back no later than 6pm.

We have a Saturday ride planned that takes us SW along Great Sacandaga Lake, then NW to Long lake for Lunch and gas. http://mylonglake.com/long-lake/ll-dining/

On our way back to Lake George, you have a choice of stops.   For those that love the outdoors experience, and are willing to walk 3/4 of a mile, see Natural Stone Bridges & Caves for a $14 fee.   http://www.stonebridgeandcaves.com/.  For the rest of us, we'll see Railroads on Parade,  a million dollar exhibit of model trains for a $10.50 or $12.50 fee.  http://railroadsonparade.com/.  Both are within a few minutes of each other, and only about 45 minutes from Lake George.  Stop where you like, and we'll meet in the Gathering Room before 5pm.  This is about 190 miles for the day.

See the attached routes in PDF.  The file for Garmin Basecamp is also attached.

IFMR 2014 DISTRICT GOVERNOR'S RIDE (and Sierra Safari)
SEPTEMBER 26-27, 2014

If you are a PDG, DG, future DG - or just appreciate what our DG's do, you'll want to make plans for this year's Bishop Safari. More information is available on the ride website.

And be sure to sign up for our ride Yahoogroups email list.

As an added bonus, we'll be meeting up with the Flying Rotarians! But while they take to the skies, we'll ride those beautiful mountain roads. It's not too soon to make your reservations.

We'll be staying at: Creekside Inn 725 Main Street Bishop, Ca. 93514

1-800-273-3550 | http://www.bishopcreeksideinn.com/

This is the nicest place in Bishop (or so we've been told by local Rotarians and Trip Advisor), and the Safari is very popular, so the sooner you make your reservations the better.  (They have a 24-hour cancellation policy, so you needn't worry about last-minute problems arising.)  Please tell them you are with the Motorcycling Rotarians.

When is the Event?
Plan to arrive well before 5:00 on Friday, September 26, when the events begin.  Book your room for Friday and Saturday nights (or longer, should you wish).  And register for the Sierra Safari.

IFMR 2014 Fall Adirondac Ride Summary -- Sept 29, 2014

Ladies & Gentlemen

What a great event we had!
We were thankful for summertime weather in the fall. We had 20 bikers, 10 from Ontario. There were a total of 28 participants, and none were disappointed. There were plenty of gracefully entertaining curves, a few sections of twisties, wonderful scenery, including some of the brilliant fall foliage expected for the area. Most enjoyable was meeting new friends, and keeping in touch with existing friends.
Thank you Gerry & Debbie Jackson for leading half the bikers in a second group. There is just no way to manage 20 bikes as a single group, or to invade a single lunch restaurant and expect reasonable service. Thank you Jeff Shaller for being “Tail rider” of the second group using a CB to stay in contact with Gerry. Thank you Chris Das for wearing that brilliant safety green jacket and being my “Tail Rider” Nobody got left behind. A special welcome to Michella (Mickey) Shaller as our only female rider.

Soon you should see picture and video links on the IFMR web page so all can see what transpired.

IFMR-NA Ride You Have Been Waiting For -- October 10-13, 2013

Greetings to ALL from your North Carolina IFMR ride chairman. We have an exciting weekend put together for the riding pleasure of all bikers. (That also includes non H-D machines)

The North Carolina Tourism Authority has assured me that this weekend will be the beginning of the "peak" leaf season. It is also early fall and the temps should be nice. The Parkway has completed major renovations and is a "must see" for those of you who can come early.

I took the liberty of inserting some "tourist attractions" into our ride this time. We have some fantastic natural beauty in North Carolina that I sometimes take for granted. If you don't like them I will see about getting you some money back.

Here is a synopsis of what I have put together:

  • Thurs: Tour Biltmore House (1/2 day), Blue Ridge Parkway, return early for some R & R.

  • Fri: Linville Falls, Blue Ridge Parkway, Grandfather Mountain, Blowing Rock, twisties back to Morganton.

  • Sat: Mount Mitchell, Black Mountain (shops, art, lunch), twisties to Lake Lure and a short "social", Morganton for dinner

  • Sun: Breakfast and home

This will be a great ride: fantastic views, twisties galore, national parks, good food, fellowship, and other surprises. I will follow up with accommodations, etc. ps: please feel free to forward this invitation to anyone you know (Rotarian or not) who you think would like to join us.

Yours in Rotary service,

IFMR-NA Ride to Eat, Roseville, CA -- Saturday, September 7, 2013

Greetings: The motorcycling community has continued to support my passion to see polio eradicated from the world for the past 14 years. That support is paying off as we close the final gap toward completion. We still have a lot of work to do and a lot of money to raise but the result will be phenomenal in terms of less suffering on the part of children throughout the world.

For the past four years we have had a Ride To Eat (RTE) to raise money for PolioPlus. For the last three years we have included an eight hour "fun" rally that has been very popular with everyone who has ridden, including many couples. Last year we incorporated a RTE the day before the rally, something that was so popular we decided to continue with it.

This year we will hold the RTE on Friday, September 6. Everyone who has paid for the rally and made their contribution to PolioPlus is invited. On Saturday, September 7, we will offer two separate rallies. The usual eight hour event for those who just want to ride a fun and beautiful route and another twelve hour ride for those who want to challenge their abilities a bit more.

Even though the following information will be posted to many of the online lists I would really appreciate your help in getting this out to as many riders as possible. Please copy and post to any lists you happen to be affiliated with and forward to any riders who may be interested in this event. Also, as a Rotarian, please get this information out to your various clubs and districts.

We are also looking for people wanting to contribute to PolioPlus even though they may not be able to attend the event as well as sponsors to donate items for prizes at the banquet. Please remember that all proceeds will go to PolioPlus. Last year we raised more than $5,000.00. This year we hope to double that but we need your help.

I have attached a flyer to this email for your use. I also welcome phone calls if you have questions.

Thanks in advance for your help,

IFMR-NA Saguenay Fjord Ride, Hailfax, CN -- September 12-16, 2013

Here is the basic plan at present;

Thursday the 12th of September we will leave Halifax... and ride to John Gyles Motor Inn, Woodstock, NB (http://www.johngylesmotorinnltd.ca/rooms.html). I have secured a price of $72 plus tax per room, each room has 2 beds so sharing a room is possible. We will meet a few friends who are traveling up from Massachusetts to join the ride. We are about 20 minutes south of Woodstock. There is a German Restaurant at the Inn, but we can travel into Woodstock if we need. (Ride time using secondary roads, 6.5 hours – 4.5 hours using all Trans Canada – we will likely mix it up a bit).

Friday, we leave Woodstock, and travel along the west side of Saint John River toward Quebec, and then the Highway 185 to Riviere-du-Loup to catch the 4:00 PM ferry to Saint-Simeon. (http://traverserdl.com/) the ferry rate is $27.60 for motorcycles, and $16.80 for each person. (add $14.80 if you are towing a trailer). (Ride time is about 4 hours using secondary roads). We will stay in Saint-Simeon for two nights (13 and 14) at the Motel Belvedere for $69 per night plus tax. (http://www.motelbelvedere.com/introang.html).

Saturday we will leave Saint Simeon early and travel Highway 170 to Saguenay, this route takes through some mountain ranges, past some lakes, and eventually along the Saguenay Fjord… (about 2 hours riding time) into the City of Saguenay. (http://www.letshike.com/ourTrips/saguenayfjord_2005_photo_gallery.htm)

We will lunch in Chicoutimi there are 157 spots to choose from, ever had real Quebec Poutine? Our return to Saint Simeon will be along Route 172 to Tadoussac where we will catch a free ferry across the Fjord and then along the Saint Laurence River on Route 138 back to Motel Belvedere. (Ride Time 2 hours to Saguenay, 2.75 hours back including ferry).

Sunday, the Ferry returning to Rivere-du-Loup leaves at 9:30… they have a great little dinner on the ferry, so breakfast will be available. The same motorcycle/passenger rates will apply on the return trip. Once off the ferry, we will motor back to Woodstock, NB… this time we  will ride the East side of the Saint John River… I have rooms confirmed at the John Gyles Motor Inn again for Sunday night. (Ride time about 4 hours using secondary roads).

Sunday we might get a stop in Grand Falls, New Brunswick for a bit of fun (http://www.zipzag.ca/) weather permitting.

Monday we will say goodbye to our American friends and then head for home.

NOTE: I have made some bookings, and can add rooms at this time, but the closer we get the less likely that I will be able to, so if you are considering, let me know… it is easier to cancel than to add as we closer.

Also, the plan is to have chase vehicle, with trailer and tools in case there are problems on the road… this vehicle should also be able to carry a few passengers weary from riding on the back of motorcycles.

Let me know if you are thinking you might come along… or ask any questions you may have that I haven’t thought about.

July 19-23, 2013 -- Colorado Springs, CO

Three days of truly spectacular riding, including five mountain passes over 10,000 feet, in the central Rockies of Colorado! Whether you live on the east coast, the west coast, or some-where in between, you don't want to miss the greatest IFMR-NA get-together in years!

Mark your calendar and join us for fun, fellowship, and great riding. Scenic, historic Colorado's Rocky Mountain high-country roads offer some of the best motorcycling in the world, bar none!

Tom Dines and his Colorado colleagues have put together a truly spectacular 3-day event for IFMR! On Saturday, July 20, together with a group from the Pikes Peak HOG chapter, ride in their annual High Altitude Poker Ride from Colorado Springs thru Aspen to Glenwood Springs, traversing five (Yes, 5!) famous Colorado mountain passes, each over 10,000 feet high.

On Sunday, the IFMR group then continues on west without the HOG riders over the Continental Divide thru Grand Mesa to Ouray. Then on Monday we'll enjoy the scenic trip from Ouray thru Silverton over Red Mountain Pass and the “Million Dollar Highway”, ending at the world-famous Durango & Silverton Narrow Guage Railroad & Museum. You can't find better riding than that! And there are additional mountain roads to enjoy on Tuesday as you head for home after our final IFMR fellowship breakfast in Durango.

See the attached flyer for more details on the ride route, lodging arrangements, etc., then make your reservations to join us for the greatest IFMR-NA get-together in years! Better yet, get together a group of IFMR riders from your area and come help make this a real NATIONAL IFMR get-together.

I'll look forward to seeing you there!

:-) Bob

Please note the following...

The 1st day when we do the 5 Colorado Mountain passes each over 10,000 ft. has changed since this flier was put together. We will do those same passes but perhaps in a different order. The ride for the 1st day is an all riders welcome ride and is the 14th annual high altitude ride put on by the Pikes Peak Chapter of the Harley Owners Group. In speaking with their organizing ride captain, Gus, we will be provided with the route map the morning of the ride. He assures me the distance for the day is 324 miles going over the 5 named passed from Colorado Springs to Glenwood Springs. I have done this ride for the past 8 years and every year the route has varied but the scenery and, amazingly enough, the weather has been perfect. The map on the IFMR flyer to the last two days (Glenwood Springs to Colorado Springs) is accurate.

Next, relating to the phone # for the Comfort Inn in Ouray is corrected to 970-325-7203. The contact name remains Betty and rate has gone down from $134 to $129.

The recommended Hotel in Durango is a bit expensive, however, this a an historic Hotel with superb location,

Any questions, please feel free to email or call.

IFMR-NA 2013 "Great North-South" Get-Together and Grand Tour
July 5-7 -- Knights Inn, Orillia, Ontario

Attached is the flyer announcing details for the "Great North-South" Get-Together and Grand Tour of the Canadian Shield region put together by Canadian IFMR Ride Guide Blair Campbell and PDG Michael Atkins. The event will be based at the Knights Inn at Orillia, Ontario, which is about an hour and a half north of Toronto in the scenic lake district and the home of the Casino Rama.

The event was originally slated to be held at Sault Ste Marie on the US-Canada border, but there were a number of logistical problems that made it necessary to move the event to another equally scenic area. Take a look at the attached flyer, which includes a map of the great Saturday ride that Blair and Michael have mapped out. Then call and make your reservations to attend this great IFMR weekend get-together of both US and Canadian IFMR members.

It's going to be great -- great roads, great food, and great IFMR fellowship! Get a group of riders together from your area and come join us.

I'm already making plans to attend; and I'll look forward to seeing you there, too!

:-) Bob

Last weekend Blair Campbell and his colleagues from the Rotary Club of Thornburg, Ontario, hosted a great weekend get-together and ride thru Canada's scenic 'summer cottage lake country' near George's Bay. Riders came from as far afield as Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.

Though the trip on Friday to Orillia, where the event was based, was a wet one for most riders, the weather for Saturday's ride was nearly ideal -- partly/mostly sunny and in the mid-to-upper 70s most of the day. And the fellowship dinners on Friday and Saturday evening were truly wonderful -- great food, great fun, and great fellowship!

Attached is a photo of the group in front of the motel before the start of the Saturday ride.

Photos from IFMR 2012 Spring Get-Together in Amish Ohio

Mon May 7, 2012 10:49 am (PDT)

I've set up a Picasa web album with some photos from last weekend's IFMR get-together in Walnut Creek, Ohio. Take a look at

If you have photos you'd like to add to the album, email me and I'll see you info on how to to upload your photos.

It was a great weekend get-together -- Great roads, great ride, great fellowship, and great scenery --and we're looking forward to the next ones later this summer and fall. Take a look at the calendar at the IFMR-NA website (www.ifmr-na.org) for more info, dates, etc. We'd love to have you join us. Or organize one in your area and let us know about it.

Best Rotary regards,

:-) Bob

IFMR Spring Get-Together, May 4-6, Walnut Creek, OH

Spring is spectacular and the riding is great in the Amish farms,
fields, forests, and hills of north-central Ohio.

Mark your calendar, make reservations, and join us for fun, fellowship, and great riding. Scenic, historic Walnut Creek is located in north-central Ohio, in the heart of beautiful Amish country.

Our planning team of Rory Windrim and Gerry Jackson have put together a great weekend! On Friday afternoon enjoy the quiet beauty of the local area, followed by a fellowship dinner in the evening; on Saturday they've mapped out a wonderful loop ride of about 200 miles, with several interesting stops along the way, plus another fellowship dinner in the evening; and on Sunday morning get together for breakfast before heading home or taking a self-guided ride around the area. There's lots of fellowship and fine food with other IFMR riders at unique local restaurants both Friday and Saturday nights.

This is a great opportunity that should be especially interesting for midwestern IFMR members who haven't been able to attend previous get-togethers held in other parts of the country. It's also an opportunity for others of us to reconnect with friends we've made at previous IFMR get-togethers.

For more information about lodging arrangements, etc., take a look at the attached flyer and map of the Saturday ride route. Then pick up the phone and call the Inn at Walnut Creek to make your room reservations. (We've blocked every room in the Inn, so their website now shows no rooms available, so you'll have to call to make reservations. Do it now!) Also send an email to Rory Windrim (rlwindrim@aol.com) to let him know you're coming, who's coming with you, and when you'll be arriving, so they have a headcount needed to make appropriate arrangements for our fellowship dinners.

Then pass the word to every Rotarian motorcyclist you know by forwarding them a copy of this email and its attachments and encourage them to come with you. And forward a copy to your district governor, to the editor of your district newsletter/bulletin, and to your district webmaster with a request for them to help get the word out.

I look forward to seeing you in Ohio the first weekend in May! It's going to be another Great IFMR Get-Together!

JOIN . . . RIDE . . . SHARE . . . ENJOY!

Best Rotary regards,

The Inn at Snowshoe
October 14-16, 2011

Fall is fantastic and the riding is great in the mountains of West Virginia.

Mark your calendar for another great IFMR fall weekend get-together and ride in the spectacular Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia. We’ve made arrangements for a great weekend including a 200 mile Saturday loop ride in the scenic Allegheny Highlands, fellowship dinners on Friday and Saturday evenings, and a farewell breakfast on Sunday morning.

ROOMS WILL BE SCARCE, SO MAKE RESERVATIONS NOW!!! Several colleges in the area are having their Homecoming on the same weekend, so many hotels/motels in the area are already booked solid. However, we’ve arranged for excellent lodging at a special IFMR rate of $64/night at the scenic Inn at Snowshoe, located just off WV 66 at the base of the mountain at Snowshoe Resort, which is about 50 miles south of Elkins, WV. For those who might prefer a B&B or condo instead, there are many in the area that can be found on-line. To make reservations, contact

The Inn at Snowshoe - 877-441-4386
10 Snowshoe Drive, Snowshoe, WV 26209

Be sure to mention our group code: IFMR. Rooms not reserved by October 1 will be released, so act now.

For those who want to arrive early or leave later in order to enjoy more of the Allegheny Highlands area, there are many other points of scenic, historic, and scientific interest in the area. For example, the Cass Scenic Railroad is just a few miles away, as is the National Radio Astronomy Center in Greenbank, WV.

For those of you who like to program the route into your GPS, or just like to get out your maps and study the route before the get-together, attached is a tentative route map of our Saturday loop ride. We’ll leave the Inn promptly at 9 AM and plan to return about 5 PM, with dinner at 6:30 PM at the Inn.

Mark your calendar, call now for room reservations, and plan to join us in Snowshoe. If you have questions or want more details, contact me at rshriner@aol.com or 540-349-8193. Otherwise, just let me know you plan to come so we can have a head-count for the meals. (Just hit REPLY, insert my email address in the TO block, and fill out the form below, delete this announcement text, then hit SEND.)

We'll look forward to seeing you there!!! And don't forget to pass the word to your friends and invite them to come with you.

IFMR FALL GET-TOGETHER -- October 13-16, 2011 in the Allegheny Highlands of VA and WV

IFMR "Fall Foliage" Get-Together Twenty-nine riders and passengers on 19 bikes turned out for the 2011 IFMR "Fall Foliage" Weekend Get-Together at Snowshoe Resort in the West Virginia mountains last weekend. Riders came from as far afield as Ontario, Minnesota, and Georgia as well as points in between. Here's a photo of most of the group just before they left for a 200-mile ride in the Allegheny Highlands on a chilly but sunny Saturday morning. Great ride! Great scenery! And Great Fun & Fellowship!!!

Ron & Cena Simmons are putting together plans for another great fall get-together in the Allegheny Highlands of West Virginia. Details are still being worked out but the event will likely include an "early-bird" get-together on Thursday evening at Ron & Cena's place at Woodstock, VA (on I-81), a ride on Friday thru the spectacular Allegheny Highlands to the Friday-night get-together dinner and overnight stay at sensational Snowshoe Resort in WV. On Saturday they're working on plans to visit the New River Gorge Bridge and Gauley River area for some spectacular local activities, then eventually back to Woodstock thru the Seneca Rocks area. It's gonna be a "not to be missed" IFMR get-together during the height of fall foliage season in the Allegheny Highlands.

Full details on lodging, etc, will be coming soon. Meanwhile, mark your calendar and make plans to join us for a great weekend of riding, fun, and fellowship. Get together a group from your club. At our spring get-together back in May in Altoona, PA, we had riders who came from as far away as Ontario, Michigan, New York, Virginia, and West Virginia, as well as from Pennsylvania.
